2/8/10-Here's what we talked about this morning: I can't find a link to this, but on ESPN yesterday, Chef Emeril Lagasse told ESPN's Chris Berman that the Monsignor at his parrish was wearing a Drew Brees jersey over his Monsignor clothes during mass and that the church got special permission to fly the Saints flag in place of the Pope's flag yesterday. They also sent a Saints flag to the Vatican which was also flown yesterday. No wonder the Saints won. The promo featuring David Letterman, Oprah and Jay Leno has caused quite a bit of buzz. How did Letterman's crew pull it off. Here's how. What was your favorite Big Game commercial yesterday? Mine was the Betty White-Abe Vigoda ad for Snickers, followed by the Doritios commercial with the little kid who told the potential boyfriend to "keep your hands off my Mama and keep your hands off my Doritos." Here's what America thought according to USA Today. The Letterman/Oprah/Leno ad doesn't count because it was a promo, not an ad. Make sure you vote in our poll.
2/6/10-As promised, here are some things for you to try for your Big Game party: If you have a crowd that likes a little kick, how about some Spicy Sausage Dip? (Anne's Eats) Every great Big Game Party has wings. Try these Sweet and Spicy ones. (Blisstree) I haven't tried making this yet, but they are on my list. Pizza Bites! (Anne's Eats) Try dazzling the crowd with a pot of White Chili. (Blisstree) What are you serving at your big game party? What are some of your favorite recipie and food sites. Please let me know.
2/5/10-Here's what we talked about this morning: Want to wager on things other than the score? Here are some prop bets that are available in Las Vegas. These are things like who will win the coin toss, what player will score the first touchdown and who will be MVP of the game. If you don't want to watch highlights or crack analysis at halftime, try watching Puppy Bowl VI on Animal Planet. The kids will love it.
2/4/10-Here's what we talked about this morning: A judge has ruled that parts of the 1983 Men at Work hit "Down Under" were lifted from a popular campfire song. Since a publishing company owns the rights to that song, the members of the group owe them boucoup royalties. Godon Gekko was in the wrong business. No industry on earth is greedier and more willing to sue than the music industry. Mel Gibson is in trouble again. Talking to Chicago TV reporter Dean Richards, Gibson got upset when pressed with questions about how his past behavior may affect the public's perception of him.. As a sidebar to this story, when I was in high school and wanted to get into radio, Dean Richards not only spent a lot of time on the phone talking to me about it, he invited me down to the radio station (WFYR) for a tour. Dean is the nicest guy in the world, so my conclusion is that Mel isn't.
2/3/10-Here's what we talked about this morning: Yesterday's Oscar nominations announcement salute some of the best films of 2009. But what are some of the worst movies of all time? According to Empire Magazine, these are.
2/2/10-Here's what we talked about this morning: What do celebs do when they get in big trouble? Go to rehab. That's what Rip Torn is doing after being arrested in a bank with a loaded gun. The story is Torn was so ripped he thought he was in his house. Next, he'll get Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones to come and wipe his memory. Lady Gaga heads the list of celebs contributing to a remake of "We are the World" to help bring relief to Haiti. Others include Lionel Ritchie and Quincy Jones who helped organized the first one in 1985 to help Africa.
2/1/10-Here's what we talked about this morning: 1/29/10-Here's what we talked about this morning: Our friends at PETA have once again gone out on the wild side. If it were up to them, Punxsutawney Phil, the groundhog who will tell you if there will be six weeks of winter this Tuesday should be retired in favor of a robot. Sorry folks, but the legend is not six more weeks of winter if WAL-E sees his shadow.
1/28/10-Here's what we talked about this morning: 1/27/10-Here's what we talked about this morning: What do you do with your coffee grounds after you brew up your morning Joe? Here are some ideas. St. Nicholas Hospital has support for cancer patients. Find out more here.
1/26/10-Here's what we talked about this morning: Guess whoi has a new show on the history channel? Larry the Cable Guy. Larry will travel the country looking for interesting people. Git er done! Who is the most popular person on TV? Why, Oprah of course. Glenn Beck is second, Jay Leno is third and Ellen Degeneres and Hugh Laurie tied for fourth. Pernell Roberts has passed away at the age of 81. He played Adam Cartwright on "Bonanza", leaving the show after six seasons after clashing with producers. After a steady stream of guest starring roles in the 70's, Roberts starred for seven seasons as "Trapper John M.D" on CBS for seven years beginning in 1979. Roberts was the last surviving member of the Cartwright family which included Loren Greene, Dan Blocker and Michael Landon.
1/25/10-Here's what we talked about this morning: What are the seven smartest dogs? These seven. Butkus D. Dogg and Murphy A. Dogg demand a recount as Bishons and Bishon Poos didn't make the list.
1/22/10-Here's what we talked about this morning: 1/21/10-Here's what we talked about this morning: The man who wrote the novels that became the popular 80's show "Spenser for Hire" has died. Robert Parker was 77. Also, "Love Story" author Erich Segal has died at 72. A noted distance runner, I remember him becoming unhinged as a commentator during the 1972 Olympics when Frank Shorter won the marathon.
1/20/10-Here's what we talked about this morning: What are the most Googled recipes of 2009 by home cooks? Chili, Meatloaf and Cheesecake. How do I find new things to prepare? We watch the Food Network Saturday morning. When my wife Princess sees something she likes, she yells "can you fix that?" I print out the recipe, go to the store and make it for dinner. True story. It's my own Top Chef competition. Here's what I did last weekend.
1/19/10-Here's what we talked about this morning: In Fon Du Lac, a man was cited after his neighbors claimed he was playing music too loudly. He was cranking John Denver tunes. He could be fined up to $210. Good thing it wasn't Barry Manilow. That carries an automatic jail sentence. Glen Bell has passed away at the age of 86. You may not recognize the name right away, but he is founder of Taco Bell. It was his inovative recipies for taco shells, taco sauce and his drive through concept that made his company the worldwide leader in Mexican fast food and helped make it available to many who had never tried it.
1/18/10-Here's what we talked about this morning: 1/15/10-Here's what we talked about this morning: A greeter at a Florida Walmart was fired after a customer took a swing at him and he defended himself. Even the cops say he was within his rights and there would be no charges. I thought Walmart represented America vlaues. NBC now has a post-Leno plan. Fans of "Law and Order Classic", ABC's "Castle" and FX's "Damages" who like all three shows are not going to be happy.
1/14/10-Here's what we talked about this morning: Taylor Swift is planning on writing an autobiography. Call me old, but I have socks older than her. My daughter is three months younger than she is and my step-daughter is two months older. My other step daughter is three years older than she is. Where I come from, we don't call a 20 year-old's autobiography a book. We call it a leaflet. Soul singer Teddy Pendergrass has passed away at 59. He was the lead singer for "Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes" back in the 70's. You may also remember that he crashed his Rolls-Royce in Philadelphia in 1982 and was left paralyzed from the waist down. He bravely reutrned to recording a year later.
1/13/10-Here's what we talked about this morning: 1/12/10-Here's what we talked about this morning: 1/11/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: NBC admits they screwed up moving Jay Leno to prime time, so beginning in February, Leno returns to late night. I'm sure it's not the last time a hasty programming decision will bite someone in the butt.
1/8/10-Here's what we talked about this morning: A woman in Missouri was not pleased with her hamburger at McDonald's. When told she could not get her money back, she trashed the place. This is the second story of McRage we've had this week!
1/7/10-Here's what we talked about this morning: Our own Lou Dobbs has started his own website. Not so fast, my friend. Lou would like some money from you first. For $49.00 a year, you'll enjoy features like on demand video and video conferences and Lou's weekly newsletter. BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE! You'll also get a hat with every subscription.
1/6/10-Here's what we talked about this morning: With the wintry weather upon us, perhaps you are in need of a cup of hot cocoa. A California based website lists the top places to grab a cup in the world, the best being in Paris. I think I'll stick to Swiss Miss.
1/5/10-Here's what we talked about this morning: It's cold in Wisconsin, but it's also cold down south. Houston, for example, will reach a low of under twenty degrees for the first time since 1996. That will make it colder than McMurdo Station in Antarctica. Al Gore was not available for comment. BTW, nothing is funnier to me than a bunch of southerners in cold weather. I lived in the south for six years and they thought it was cold when it hit 30. I freaked them out because I didn't wear a coat until it got down into the teens. Of course, they laugh at us in the summer when the humidity down there is 145% and the heat index is the temperature of the sun. A woman in Ohio was so upset that her local McDonalds wouldn't serve her Chicken McNuggets, she punched out the drive through person and then put her fist through the drive-in window. I feel the same way about Big Macs.
1/4/10-Here's what we talked about this morning: 1/1/10-Good morning and happy new year! If you overdid it last night, here are some sure fire breakfasts that will help soothe the flannel on your tongue and the freight train in your head. 12/31/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: Two guys in Califoirnia have invented a novel item. It's a dog collar which has a bottle opener on it. Anytime you want to crack a cold one, you just call Fido (or Butkus or Murphy.) What would be really impressive is teaching your dog to open it for you!
12/30/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: Paula Deen, the patron saint of butter, is adding to her merch. Soon to come will be a line of paper products including stationary and recipe cards. If you know Paula Deen's life story, you know she is having one heck of a ride.
12/29/09-Back from vacation! Here's what we talked about this morning: You know that old saying "Once in a blue moon?" A blue moon is a second full moon during a lunar cycle. There will be one New Year's eve. Sounds like a good night to stay home.
12/18/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: 12/17/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: 12/16/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: Americans are becvoming more nearsighted. Experts say part of it may be because kids don't play outside as much, which I think is bunk. I played outside all the time as a kid, yet without my glasses I have the eyesight of Stevie Wonder.
12/15/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: 12/14/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: What's the most popular song that they like to karaoke to in Britain? "Waterloo" by Abba. Rounding out the top three "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen and Frank Sinatra's "My Way." My favorite Karaoke song is Bobby Darin's "Mack The Knife." But don't ask me to sing it. I couldn't carry a tune in a dump truck. But boy, do I sound great in the shower.
12/11/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: Actor Gene Barry has passed away at the age of 90. You may remember him from such TV shows as "Bat Masterson", "Burke's Law" and "The Name of the Game." I watch a lot of classic TV shows and he was one of my favorites, sort of like TV's version of Cary Grant.
12/10/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: A man was cited for drunk drving after police observed his vehicle weaving down the center line of a road in Pennsylvania. The strange part to the story is the man was Amish and he was driving a buggy. He actually had fallen asleep.
12/9/09-SNOW DAY! Is it just me or is everyone getting annoyed today when they hear someone sing "Let it Snow"? 12/8/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: 12/7/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: Want some of the world's oldest cheese? It will only cost you $50 per pound. It's not something you want to serve on cracker's new year's eve. Honestly, do you eat it or stand around and admire it?
12/4/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: Guys, how can you tell if a woman is interested in you? Watch her feet.
12/3/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: A Wisconsin company has invented a new snack: Jerky Cheese. Not exactly a Reece's Peanut Butter cup is it?
12/2/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: 12/1/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: 11/30/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: 11/28/09-Murphy A. Dogg and I drove back down to my Mom and Dad's house and delivered the ham. Murphy had fun in the car and at his Grandparent's house where he hid under the couch. My mom was grateful that I brought the ham, but I got a stern lecture about wasting gas and making unncessary trips. It goes to prove no matter how old you are, your mother is still going to yell at you! My Dad was mad at me too, but he is always mad at me, so no big deal there. In my heart, I know I did the right thing and even though my parents were mildly annoyed, I made it right, which is what they taught me in the first place! BTW, if you are wondering why I only took Murphy and not both our dogs, Butkus D. Dogg gets car sick. 11/27/09-Thanksgiving dinner was a huge hit! I think I shanked the cranberry sauce (a little too tart) but other than that, a home run. Except my Mom wanted me to bring her a Honey Baked Ham which I left in the fridge at my house. Ooops! I feel plenty bad about it too, especially since I went out of my way on Wednesday to pick it up. 11/26/09-Happy Thanksgiving. I'm about 2/3rds of the way done with getting my Thanksgiving food ready. Then, we pack it up and head south to visit the parents. Last night, Murphy A. Dogg stole half a package of sausages and ran around the house with Princess, my mother in law and me in hot pursuit. We caught him, but I can't figure out if he ate a whole one or not. 11/25/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: Next to the opening day of baseball season, Thanksgiving is my favorite day of the year. As usual, I (along with my two sous chefs Murphy A. Dogg and my mother-in-law, Mama) am making Thankgiving dinner in our kitchen at home, then packing it up and taking it to my mom and dad's house. Here's my best tip on making the big meal: Go to an office supply store and get some big post it notes. Put one up on a cabinet in your work area which lists all of the dishes you are planning to make. Put another up with the prep list in the order you will be preparing them. I start with the gravy, the cranberry sauce and the brine for the turkey because those take the longest. On Thanksgiving day, have another post it with cascading cook times so you know when to put each dish in the oven. Make sure you figure fifteen minutes for the turkey to rest when you take it out of the oven. Here are some other tips from some one with much more street cred than me.
11/24/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: 11/23/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: In most cases, if a man misses the birth of a child because he has to work, people will raise an eybrow. However, you'll have to give Randy Bresnik a pass. While his wife was giving birth, Bresnik was out taking a space walk as part of the crew of the space shuttle Atlantis. There appears to be a shortage of Eggo waffles. The shortage in production is being blamed on floods and equiptment failures. Let go of my Eggo!
11/20/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: In what may be one of the most unique stuffing recipies on the planet, a Chicago Chef advocates stuffing your bird with sliders from White Castle. Here's how you do it.
11/19/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: Did you know that dishes like Nachos and Salisbury steak are named after people? So are these dishes. Who is People magazine's sexiest man on earth for 2009? It's Johnny Depp. Chris Logan finished a close second, just ask him.
11/18/09-Here's what we talked abou, t this morning: Nicholas Cage's former financial manager says Nick's own lavish spending caused his own finiancial downfall. Among the items Nick purchased were two castles, fifteen homes, several yachts and several more Rolls Royce cars. Nick is suing Samuel Levin, claiming that Levin is at fault in Nick's reversal of fortune. Those wacky PETA people are at it again. This time, they are targeting Sesame Street, which is underwritten in part by the egg board. PETA believes that eggs are bad for you and bad for kids and that touting eggs as a healthy food is misleading to children. I'd write more, but my omlet is getting cold.
11/17/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: We're sad to report a couple of celebrity deaths this morning. Edward Woodward, star of "The Equalizer" in the 80's passed away at the agoe of 79. And Ken Ober, host of MTV's TV trivia game "Remote Control" has left us at age 52.
11/16/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: The first victim of Canada's recently armed border guards was a moose. The good news is Rocky is fine and Boris and Natasha are being sought for questioning. Forget H1N1, there's a huge mumps outbreak in the US. For the record, I survived mumps and measles but had chicken pox and scarlet fever (in succession, by the way. I was a sickly child!) I think I just violated HIPPA. A Pizza driver parked his car in the fire lane with the motor running to deliver a pizza. A good citizen moved it for him... by stealing it.
11/13/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: 11/12/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: What a night for Taylor Swift at the CMA awards. She became the youngest person ever to win the coveted "Entertainer of the Year" award last night in Nashville. She also won "Female Vocalist of the Year" and "Album of the Year." In fact, she had to rent a U-Haul to get all her new hardware home! You may love soda pop, but it doesn't love you back. Studies now indicate that high amounts of high fructose corn syrup can cause high blood pressure. Drink diet instead until they find something wrong with that.
11/11/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: Sesame Street celebrated it's 40th birthday yesterday. If you watch video from it in that time period, you see things you would never see today...the street is darker and more urban, kids actually ride bikes without helmets and Cookie Monster now has , a balanced diet.
11/10/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: That motorized recliner that the police in Minnesota were selling off after arresting the original owner for OWI, fetched $10,000 at auction. It would have made over $40,000 on EBAY but was removed because it advertised it as a Lazy Boy, which it wasn't. Lazy Boy's lawyers were not amused and EBAY removed it.
11/09/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: NCIS has a very special guest on their November 24th episode: Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus. The SECNAV will be playing an NCIS agent. It's not the first time a politician has been on a current TV program. Fred Thompson started playing Arthur Branch on "Law & Order" before his senate term expired.
11/6/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: The Food Network rolls out the heavy hitters in January for a special Iron Chef competition at the White House. Food Network Chefs Mario Batali, Bobby Flay, Emeril Lagasse and White House executive chef Cristeta Comerford will compete and Alton brown will be on hand for the play by play. Bam! What are the top 100 movie quotes of all time? These.
11/5/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: If you take low does asprin daily and you haven't had a heart attack or a stroke, STOP. It may be bad for you!
11/4/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: 11/3/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: In Omaha, a would be knife weilding restaurant robber was foiled by a cook who stopped him with a flank steak. Too bad the guy didn't have a fork because flank steak is good eats, ! News from Hollywood: If you watch NCIS on a regular basis, you know Tony is estranged from his wealthy dad who cut him off. In January, Tony will be reunited with his dad. The part will be played by legendary actor Robert Wagner.
11/2/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: 10/30/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: 10/29/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: CNN Money has compiled a list of the most stressful, lowest paid jobs around. They include teachers, producers, new reporters, event coordinators, fund raisers and people who run assisted living centers. Mornng radio personalities are once again left off the list. Have you seen the DirecTV ad with Chris Farley in it. Ever since Steve Martin did "Dead Man Don't Wear Plaid" I've always enjoyed the reani, mation (if you will) of dead people into a movie or commerical. The new DirecTV commercial is taking a lot of flak from people who find it offensive to the memory of Chris Farley, who, by the way, passed away twelve years ago. The Farley family doesn't agree, saying it honors his memory by making people laugh.
10/28/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: 10/27/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: We told you last week about the guy in the motorized Lazy Boy chair who was arrested when he crashed into a parked car. Now police in Minnesota are auctioning it off on e-bay. Here's a complete description. In today's can't leave well enough alone department, remakes are being planned for "The A-Team" and the classic western "True Grit." Good thing John Wayne isn't , still around to see that.
10/26/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: How are companies legally supposed to use your credit report? Here's how.
10/25/09-I had a great time this afternoon at Memorial Mall in Sheboygan with the annual "Boo Bash." There were some great costumes yesterday. Kudos to the families that dressed up as the "Wizard of Oz" and "Popeye, Olive Oyl and Sweet Pea." Thanks to all the folks that came out and we'll see you on November 21st when we wake up Santa! 10/23/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: 10/22/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: What is the most expensive college in the US? If you said Sarah Lawrence College, you are a winner. Or, you have a child who goes there!
10/21/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: A man in Virginia woke up one morning at 5:30 and was making coffee in his kitchen in the nude. A woman, who was walking by with a seven year-old boy, saw him and phoned police who arrested him. Questions: What is a woman doing out at 5:30am with a seven year-old boy and aren't you allowed to walk around in your own house in the nude? Not in Virginia, I suppose.
10/20/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: If you are looking for a unique holiday gift for the person that has everything, give them the gift of bacon. Bacon soap. Now, each morning, your loved one can scrub themselves silly and smell like breakfast after.
10/19/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: In Hayward, a black bear walked into the liquor department of a local grocery store and sat down on a case of Hamms beer. It's ironic if you remember the commericals of the sixties and seventies. I've put one below if you've never seen one.
10/18/09-I was out with my new toy today...a pressure washer. It's the best $100 I ever spent. I never thought cleaning the deck would be so fun. 10/16/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: If you have a favorite new TV show that is in trouble, now is the time to let the networks how you feel. Here's how. Did you see any of the cable coverage of "balloon boy" yesterday?. The good n, ews is while people worried about Falcon Heene, he was actually asleep in his attic. Never has such a hoax been as successful since Orson Wells "War of the World."
10/15/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: What's the number one city in the world for riding bicycles? Madison, WI. Police in Worland, WY responded to a report of an armed man with a gun standing on someone's front lawn. It turned out to be a cardboard cutout of John Wayne. The Duke was set up by the homeowners daughter as a prank. Well, gee whiz, Pilgrim.
10/14/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: The first lady of California isn't setting a good example for citizens. Despite the fact that the state requires handsfree cell phone operation while driving, Maria Shriver has failed to receive the memo and has had a few citations for being in violation of the law. The Gubernato, r is not amused. "Maria, I tell you now and remind you later, get off the phone!" <, /LI>Marge Simpson, yes that Marge Simpson, will be on the November cover of Playboy and will be um, posing for the magazine in a three page spread. I guess Minnie Mouse and Jessica Rabbit turned them down.
10/13/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: Askmen.com conducted a poll to determine the most influential man of 2009. President Obama finished third, sprinter Usain Bolt finished second and finishing first, ad exec Don Draper.
10/12/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: What are some of the most dangerous foods you could eat? If you said a Big Mac, you are wrong. If you said lettuce, congratulations, you win a salad. Or an omlet. Or a tuna sandwich. Here's my rant for today: I went to a grocery store last night , and got in the twenty items or less line. I make it a point to count my items so that I don't screw anyone over in line. The woman in front of me apparently didn't. That and she wrote a check. I bank by Internet and haven't written a check in at least five years. It took at least five extra minutes for me to get through the line because of an inconsiderate individual. At my age, that's a lifetime!
10/9/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: Here are some phrases that, at the end of the day, will annoy you. Whatever. It is what it is, you know?
10/8/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: If you were planning on getting a new driver's license Monday, we have some bad news for you. DMV's across Wisconsin are closed due to a furlough day. It's also Columbus Day. If you really want to do something special on that next vacation, you could join the cruise that will celebrate the 100th anniversary voyage of the Titanic. The Titanic memorial cruise will depart South Hampton, England on April 8, 2012 and with any luck, not have the lengthy stop over the original did on April 14. You have plenty of time to save money for this trip, an inside cabin is priced at $3,900. Leo DiCaprio not included.
10/7/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: 10/6/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: Who was the big winner in the "Dancing with the Stars" that you didn't get to see last night (because of football)? Mya.
10/5/09-Here's what we talked about this morning:
10/2/09-Here's what we talked about: 10/1/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: 9/30/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: 9/29/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: 9/28/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: - Some poor person with a g-mail account was accidentally sent a sensitive spread sheet by a bak employee. A judge has ruled that the account must be suspended until the spreadsheet can be retrieved. Hopefully, the person sent the spread sheet has more than one e-mail , account.
- News from Hollywood: We're a week into the new TV season and we already have a cancelation: The CW has pulled the plug on "The Beautiful Life." And, the USA Network confirms mass changes in the cast of "Law & Order: Criminal Intent." Leaving the show are cast members Vincent D'Onofrio, Kathryn Erbe, Eric Bogosian and Julianne Nicholson. Saffron Burrows will be joining the cast.
- If you stayed up late Saturday Night, you may have heard some&nbs, p;harsh language on "Saturday Night Live" as cast member Jenny Slate let loose an "f-bomb." This is hardly the first time this has happened on SNL. Here are a few more salty moments.
9/25/09-Here's what we talked about this morning:
- A prisoner in Iowa has been granted a special release...to attend a baseball game. I thought prison was about being DENIED privledges.
- Actor/Commercial Voice Over Artist Randy Quaid and his wife have been arrested after skipping out on a $10,000 hotel bill. Quaid claims that Clark Griswold was supposed to pick up the tab.
- Miley Cyrus had one of the most exclusive restaurants shut down for a private after concert party. Miley didn't want to have to dea, l with the public, so she bought all 100 seats at Katsuya. 6/26/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: Some personal thoughts on the passing of Michael Jacks, on and Farrah Fawcett: It's been sort of a surreal show this morning due to the deaths of two huge pop icons. Honestly, I knew Farrah wasn't going to be around much longer, but Michael Jackson was a stunner as I'm sure it was to most people. Every man my age had one of those Farrah posters hanging in their room as a kid. Farrah turned her entire perception around when she starred in a TV movie called "The Burning Bed." It was such a riveting performance, many people realized she wasn't just another vapid pin up girl. Women really began to respect her as that movie was about spousal abuse. While Hollywood relationships come and go, her many years with Ryan O'Neil was special. Michael Jackson was raised from birth to be an entertainer. Anyone under that kind of pressure is bound to grow up a little strange. Okay, maybe not as strange as he was, but a bit strange. Regardless of what you thought of the plastic surgery and the accusations with his relationships with kids, the man had talent. When you listen to his music, you tap , your feet and snap your fingers and are uplifted by it, which is exactly what is supposed to happen. The 50's had Elvis, the '60's had the Beatles, the 70's had Elton John and the 80's had Michael Jackson. I had the great fortune to see Michael Jackson perform in concert. It was in 1988 at Madison Square Garden at a fundraiser for the UNCF. He was spectacular. The singing. The dancing. The presence. Nobody comes close to him live except maybe Bruce Springsteen. Michael was an awesome entertainer. That's how I'll remember him.

It didn't take long for the first pooch to get a book deal. Bo, the Obama's new dog, will make $5 million to share his story. 4/17/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: A bakery in Florida has created a "divorce cake" which looks like a wedding cake but has a cake topper more fitting for a divorce. WEB BONUS CONTENT: I love to wear my sweatpants on the weekend and after work. I know a lot of people that do. Some people take it way too seriously. I should point out that sweatpants as casual wear are where jeans were in the early 70's. Back then, jeans were only for weekends and bumming around the house. Now, kids wear jeans to school and people who work in offices wear them to work. There's a whole generation of people confounded by that. My Dad, who is 85, has never owned a pair of blue jeans in his life and says that they are low class.
4/13/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: What are the food police up to next? How about taxing soda pop? The health commissioner of New York City wants to add a "sin" tax of $.1 per ounce to soda pop because he thinks it's as bad for you as cigarettes. And, "The Twilight Zone" wasn't even on the list. Meanwhile, "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" was #26. Ugh. If you are going to anything illegal, don, 't put it on Youtube. A man in England found that out when he posted a video of him drag racing and received a ticket.

3/15/09-In honor of St. Patrick's day and because Princess is addicted to Rueben sandwiches, I made my first corned beef. It won't scare the folks at Vienna Beef. but it came out pretty good. Ruebens for everyone! Princess and I also had breakfast with an old friend of mine who is back in the states for a little while from Afghanistan where he works for a civilian defense contractor. If you think your job is pain in the neck, you should hear about his! 3/14/09-Happy Birthday to my daughter Jordan who turns 19 today. No, I'm not making this up.

And, we already know he has a designated driver.
3/3/09-Here's wh, at we talked about this morning: Jimmy Fallon debuted his new late night show last night to mixed reviews. If you've been watching the show (and apparently few people have) you hope that they'll at least tell you why Sam Tyler was sent back to 1973. I thought it was a good show, but it would have been better servered being on the Sci-FI network rather than over the air broadcast TV.
3/2/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: To fight off some home invaders, an Ohio woman defended herself with a 5 quart Emerilware sauce pan (BAM!) which was impounded as evidence after , the fracus. Chef Lagasse vowed to replace the pot and did so, sending her an entire new set of Emerilware. That's a $200 gift for those of you keeping track. I do have a set of Emerilware (a Christmas gift from Princess) and I can tell you, the woman made the right choice. It weighs a ton!
3/1/09-I'm truly saddened this morning by the news that Paul Harvey has passed away at the age of 90. When I first started in this business, a co-worked suggested that I listen to Paul Harvey to learn some basic vocal skills like enunciation and articulation. No matter what you thought of his politics, Paul Harvey was a master broadcaster who was a beloved and gigantic icon in broadcasting. He will be missed by all of those who appreciated and admired his talent.
2/27/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: The President and his families have settled on a dog for the White House. Perhaps thanks to the involvement of Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, the Obamas are actively seeking a Portuguese Water Dog. Mayor Barrett and his family own one, and when they read the Obamas were considering one, wrote the President and his family a letter endorsing it highly. I still think the Obamas would have been happy with a Bichon Frise.

Of course, you'll have to drive to Oshkosh, Milwaukee or Green Bay to get them. Unrelated to this, Quizno's is offering free sandwich coupons for those willing to sign up for their marketing database. I don't know if a free toasted sub is worth a lifetime of annoying e-mail.

What are the top dog names in Wichita, Kansas? Buddy for males and Maggie for females. Max, Molly, Sadie, Daisy, Lucy, Sophie, Bailey and Jack round out the list. But no Butkus and no Murphy. The boys are sure to be disappointed.

Here are my ideas: Dennis Farina as Hannibal Smith; Jeffery Donovan as "Face"; Jim Carrey as "Howling Mad Murdoch" and Ice-T as "B.A. Barracus." If you have to cast the Robert Vaughn part (from later in the series), I'd probably go with Daniel Benzali. If you have some ideas, please e-mail them to me.
2/14/09-I hope you had a nice V.D. I made Princess dinner. Filet Mignon, twice baked potatos, mixed veggies and chocolate cake. 2/11/09-Here's what , we talked about this morning: There's a new champion at the Westminster Dog Show. Stump, a ten year-old Sussex Spaniel was named top dog last night. At 10, he's the oldest dog ever to win best in show at Westminster. I enjoy watching the dog shows and seeing all the different br, eeds, but I usually quit watching when the Bichon Frise gets eliminated. Since one of our dogs, Murphy, is a Bichon, I have a rooting interest I suppose. Grey's Anatomy may be faced with some cast changes next season. Both Kathryn Heigl (Izzy) and T.R. Knight (George) may leave the show at the end of the season. Last year, Heigl accused writers of not writing enoungh good material for her. There's a woman who knows how to make friends. 2/8/09-Here are a couple of items involving McDonald's. - McDonald's is now testing a Big Map Wrap, which is two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles on a FLOUR TORTILLA. Princess and I had it for lunch on Friday. Honestly, it's probably if you are looking for something to eat while driving, but the tortillia doesn't hold the sauce very well. I think I prefer the bun. E-mail me with your thoughts.
- If you are Jonesing for a "McRib", you can find one using this handy, dandy McRib locator.
2/6/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: Famed songstress Etta James pulled no punches on her feelings about Beyonce. James was furious that Beyonce sang her signature song "At Last" as the President and Mrs. Obama celebrated , their first dance in office. Etta went as far as saying she wanted to kick Beyonce's (butt.) Here's the audio, straight from the horse (okay, maybe horse isn't a good word to use in a story about Etta James.) Celbrities behaving badly include Carlos Mencia who will no longer be participating in the Mardi Gras parade because of insensitive comments about Hurrican Katrina victims. And, Olympic hero Michael Phelps who has been suspended for three months by USA swimming and dropped by his sponsor Kellogg's for a picture of him smoking pot which appeared in a British tabloid (and has been widely circulated on the internet.) No truth to the rumor that Phelps will be signing endorsement deals with Twinkies and Frito Lay. President Bush's chief of staff Andy Card thinks President Obama should wear his jacket in the oval office. Card says the President's habit of working without his jacket on is a sign of disprespect to the office. I love carrot cake and now I can enjoy it anytime I want. Here's the recipe I used. I know that baking a carrot cake might not be a big deal to yo, u, but no one in my family bakes, so I am learning. And I did it without a box! I also made some awesome blue cheese/bacon mashed potatoes. Here's the recipe I used for that. 1/30/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: Who are the Prez and the Veep rooting for in Sunday's big game? It's not Arizona.

A set that give you 1080i and 720p should suffice for now. How do you get your cows to be more productive? Name them. If you think there are less , Girl Scout cookies in your box, you are correct. The number was reduced this year because of rising costs.

Subway claims the testing Domino's did is unfair based on the composition of the Subway snadwiches used in the testing and sent Domino's a letter asking them to cease their commercials. 1/20/09-Inauguration notes-I'm watching online here at WLKN.com and recording my thoughts: What the heck does Aretha Franklin have on her head? The speech was well executed, but kind of somber and lacking in sound bytes. Great message though. ABC is reporting Teddy Kennedy collapsed at the luncheon. Harry Reid just made the lamest toast ever in honor of the VP. President Obama is somber as he gives his remarks as he is great friends with Senator Kennedy. The President and Vice-President are getting some crystal bowl as a gift. You know, with all the probelms in this country, couldn't they have skipped the luncheon, gone through the Mickey D's drive through and started waork a, t 2pm?, Boy, if this parade moved any slower, it would be stopped! The Obamas are getting out of the car! Jesse Jackson joins ABC and talks about the civil rights movement and what this day means. ABC reports that Ted Kennedy's son Patrick says his dad is okay, just tired and resting comfortably in the hospital. Luci Johnson, daughter of former President Lyndon Johnson, joins ABC news and talks about life in the white house. She says her first secret service agent told her if she slipped him, he would lose his job and then his two year-old daughter would have an out of work daddy. She also adds that her father appreciated the fact that secret service agents had to follow his teenage daughter everywhere. The parade moves on. And on. And on. CNN has a panel that says that if President Obama can walk the walk, he may go down in history as , an all-time great. Pat Buchannan is all fired up on MSNBC. That's enough of that. CNN has a fashion guy on talking about Michelle's dress, saying it was a "bit five o'clock." I think the networks have finally run out of things to cover. There's Michelle at the bal, l. The CNN fashion dude is disappointed she isn't wearing a halter dress. CBS has an excellent program on with Katie Couric. The President pays emotional homage to his mother who raised him and says that without her, he wouldn't be where he is. He also says the odds of him becoming President based on his background were unbelievably slim, but somehow, it happened. A ten-year old boy from Oklahoma got a VIP pass from his congressman to attend the ceremony. He came by himself and is very inspired by the new President. Katie is interviewing the wife of wife of slain civil rights leader Medgar Evers. Very emotional. Mrs. Evers knows her husband and Dr. King are "shooting off fireworks tonight." President Obama says his girls are off limits to the media. Any violating that directive will incur his wrath. Well played, Mr. President. I better get to bed. It's almost 9pm!

My only regret about this cold weather is that Al Gore isn't here to experience it with us.
1/15/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: Sad news from Holly, wood as two fairly famous names have left us. First, Patrick McGoohan, famous for his work in the 60's show "The Prisoner" passed away at 80. Also Ricardo Montalban has passed away at 88. Montalban was featured in several shows in the sixties and seventies, including "Fantasy Island." He's also well know for playing Captain Kirk's mortal enemy "Kahn" in "Star Trek TOS" and the movie "Star Trek II, the Wrath of Kahn." Because of his dark features and complexion Montalban played a lot of Indians on many 60's westerns. Plus, who could ever forget this:

1/14/09-Here's what we talked abou, t this morning: A man and his father decided to cut in line at a Walmart in Indiana and were stopped by an off duty cop. They are now cooling their heels in the local crossbar Hilton. I wish an off duty cop would be available at the twenty items or less line.
1/13/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: The National Safety Council wants to ban talking on cell phones while driving because you have a good chance of being in an accident while you are yacking. I'm a firm believer that wearing a headset should be madatory for those who must talk and drive. And don't get me started on people who drive and text message or check their e-mail. Barach Obama has assembled a huge lineup of talent for Sunday's " We Are One: The Obama Inaugural Celebration at the Lincoln Memorial,". Included in the musical acts:, Beyonce, Bono, Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Wonder, Garth Brooks, Josh Grobin, John Mellencamp and Usher. Among the passage readers Queen Latifah and Denzel Washington. Unfortunately, the only place to watch it is on HBO and if you are like me and don't have HBO, you'll have to wait until it comes out on DVD. Maybe the participants can stick around until Monday to enjoy the Inagural cheesecake (mmmm cheeesecake).
1/12/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: Number One at the box office this weekend was Clint Eastwood's Gran Torino. Eastwood is amazing, still popular as a leading man at the age of 78. I've enjoyed most of what he's done including "Rawhide", his western movies and of course all of the "Dirty Harry" movies. My favorite Eastwood flick is "The Gauntlet." The only Eastwood films I haven't liked are "Every Which Way but Loose" and "The Bridges of Madison, County."
1/11/09-If before the season, you picked the Philadelphia Eagles and the Arizona Cardinals to play for the NFC championship, I'd like you to accompany me to Vegas. Or to pick my powerball numbers. 1/9/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: Former star of "Cosby" and "A Different World" Lisa Bonet and significant other Jasa Momoa have had their second child. The child's name? Nakoka Wolf Manakauapo Namakaha Momoa. Here's a kid who will have to learn how to fight at an early age. GUESS WHO HAS A NEW REALITY SHOW ON THE DISCOVERY CHANNEL? TV PITCHMAN BILLY MAYS! Can Vince the Sham Wow guy be far, behind? Or the J.G. Wentworth opera chorus?
1/8/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: Talk about bad bosses. You may recall the story about the pizza place in Lacey, Washington where the owner didn't want to use the heat and the employees were forced to work in 25 degree temperatures. He's now fired the employee that went public with the story. This is a lawsuit or a board of health inspection away from being really interesting. I'm all for ce, lebrity chefs making extra money (Rachel's talk show, Alton hawking grape juice, Emeril selling toothpaste, Paula selling sausage) but Bobby Flay as the host of a men's talk show? I think the envelope has been pushed a bit too far. What's next? Haircare tips with Guy Fieri?
1/7/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: If you were planning on attending the annual dog sled race in Frazee, Minnesota, you'll have to change your plans. The race has been called off due to too much snow. Barach Obama will be riding in style in his new presidential limo. His new ride is so tough it can withstand getting hit by an asteroid. I wonder what the MPG on it is? Can't everybody leave well enough alone? There may be a Gilligan's Island movie with Michael Cera as Gilligan and Byonce as Ginger. Here's some other casting ideas from yours truly: John, Goodman as the Skipper, Valerie Bertinelli as Mary Ann, Angela Lansbury as Mrs. Howell, Robert Vaughn as Mr. Howell and William Hurt as the Professor. If you have any casting ideas, please e-mail them to me.
1/6/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: 1/5/09-Here's what we talked about this morning: 1/4/09-Somebody committed one of those unpardonable sins against me yesterday. I was at the grocery store and standing in the 20 items or less line. I had less than 20 items as I keep a running count as I shop. The person ahead of me must have flunked math because she had at least 27 items. Of course, if the cashier kicked her to the regular line, the store would lose a customer, so of course that didn't happen. But the woman did get the "Ramsey glare of death." Kids, 20 items or less means 20 items or less. If I ruled the world, people who took more than the limit to the express line would get ten years hard labor. 1/2/09-I am not safe in my own house. Alabama has lost the Sugar Bowl. Butkus and Murphy are hiding under the coffee table with their paws over their eyes waiting for Princess to calm down. 1/1/09-Happy New Year! We're making lasagna and watching football today. We hope 2009 is a fantastic year for you and and your family!
