Welcome to the Lake 98.1 Morning Show with Chip Ramsey! Scroll down to see what we've been talking about on the show.

_______________________________________________

2/8/10-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • I can't find a link to this, but on ESPN yesterday, Chef Emeril Lagasse told ESPN's Chris Berman that the Monsignor at his parrish was wearing a Drew Brees jersey over his Monsignor clothes during mass and that the church got special permission to fly the Saints flag in place of the Pope's flag yesterday.  They also sent a Saints flag to the Vatican which was also flown yesterday.  No wonder the Saints won.
  • The promo featuring David Letterman, Oprah and Jay Leno has caused quite a bit of buzz.  How did Letterman's crew pull it off.  Here's how.
  • What was your favorite Big Game commercial yesterday?  Mine was the Betty White-Abe Vigoda ad for Snickers, followed by the Doritios commercial with the little kid who told the potential boyfriend to "keep your hands off my Mama and keep your hands off my Doritos."  Here's what America thought according to USA Today. The Letterman/Oprah/Leno ad doesn't count because it was a promo, not an ad. Make sure you vote in our poll.
  • Those portion sizes on your favroite foods may not be accurate.  The FDA wants to correct that problem.

2/6/10-As promised, here are some things for you to try for your Big Game party:

2/5/10-Here's what we talked about this morning:

2/4/10-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • A judge has ruled that parts of the 1983 Men at Work hit "Down Under" were lifted from a popular campfire song.  Since a publishing company owns the rights to that song, the members of the group owe them boucoup royalties.  Godon Gekko was in the wrong business.  No industry on earth is greedier and more willing to sue than the music industry.
  • A man in Michigan channeled his inner Wyle E. Coyote building a "rocket vest" out of parts he found in his garage, mouting a sled and having someone light the fuse.  Unfortunately, it blew up and the man suffered some second degree burns.  And no, he didn't catch the Roadrunner.
  • Mel Gibson is in trouble again.  Talking to Chicago TV reporter Dean Richards, Gibson got upset when pressed with questions about how his past behavior may affect the public's perception of him..  As a sidebar to this story, when I was in high school and wanted to get into radio, Dean Richards not only spent a lot of time on the phone talking to me about it, he invited me down to the radio station (WFYR) for a tour.  Dean is the nicest guy in the world, so my conclusion is that Mel isn't.

2/3/10-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • You know you've hit the big time when you are immortalized in Cheetos.
  • Yesterday's Oscar nominations announcement salute some of the best films of 2009. But what are some of the worst movies of all time? According to Empire Magazine,  these are.

2/2/10-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • What do celebs do when they get in big trouble?  Go to rehab.  That's what Rip Torn is doing after being arrested in a bank with a loaded gun.  The story is Torn was so ripped he thought he was in his house. Next, he'll get Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones to come and wipe his memory.
  • Lady Gaga heads the list of celebs contributing to a remake of "We are the World" to help bring relief to Haiti.  Others include Lionel Ritchie and Quincy Jones who helped organized the first one in 1985 to help Africa.
  • We understand that Punxsutawney Phil has seen his shadow and we are in for six more weeks of winter. Locally, we understand Chris Logan has also seen his shadow.

2/1/10-Here's what we talked about this morning:

1/29/10-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • A Scottish motorist was fined $97 for "not having control of his vehicle."  What did he do?  He blew his nose while stuck in traffic.  Imagine the fine if he had been picking it.
  • Our friends at PETA have once again gone out on the wild side.  If it were up to them, Punxsutawney Phil, the groundhog who will tell you if there will be six weeks of winter this Tuesday should be retired in favor of a robot.  Sorry folks, but the legend is not six more weeks of winter if WAL-E sees his shadow.
  • Look who's back.  Olivia Newton John!

1/28/10-Here's what we talked about this morning:

1/27/10-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • Susan Boyle arrived home from a recording session to find an intruder in her home.  Police will not confirm the report.  Count your underwear, Susan!
  • What do you do with your coffee grounds after you brew up your morning Joe?  Here are some ideas.
  • St. Nicholas Hospital has support for cancer patients.  Find out more here.

1/26/10-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • Guess whoi has a new show on the history channel?  Larry the Cable Guy.  Larry will travel the country looking for interesting people.  Git er done!
  • Who is the most popular person on TV?  Why, Oprah of course. Glenn Beck is second, Jay Leno is third and Ellen Degeneres and Hugh Laurie tied for fourth.
  • Pernell Roberts has passed away at the age of 81.  He played Adam Cartwright on "Bonanza", leaving the show after six seasons after clashing with producers.  After a steady stream of guest starring roles in the 70's, Roberts starred for seven seasons as "Trapper John M.D" on CBS for seven years beginning in 1979. Roberts was the last surviving member of the Cartwright family which included Loren Greene, Dan Blocker and Michael Landon.

1/25/10-Here's what we talked about this morning:

1/22/10-Here's what we talked about this morning:

1/21/10-Here's what we talked about this morning:

1/20/10-Here's what we talked about this morning:

1/19/10-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • In Fon Du Lac, a man was cited after his neighbors claimed he was playing music too loudly.  He was cranking John Denver tunes.  He could be fined up to $210.  Good thing it wasn't Barry Manilow.  That carries an automatic jail sentence.
  • Jay Leno was gracious last night talking candidly about how we have gotten to the point where we are with the Late Night situation.  Jay also anticipates moving back to 10:35. Conan, for his part, kept twisting the knife.
  • Glen Bell has passed away at the age of 86.  You may not recognize the name right away, but he is founder of Taco Bell. It was his inovative recipies for taco shells, taco sauce and his drive through concept that made his company the worldwide leader in Mexican fast food and helped make it available to many who had never tried it.

1/18/10-Here's what we talked about this morning:

1/15/10-Here's what we talked about this morning:

1/14/10-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • Taylor Swift is planning on writing an autobiography.  Call me old, but I have socks older than her.  My daughter is three months younger than she is and my step-daughter is two months older.  My other step daughter is three years older than she is.  Where I come from, we don't call a 20 year-old's autobiography a book.  We call it a leaflet.
  • Leno and Conan continue to go at it on late night.  It seems like it is beginning to get personal.  I had a friend tell me that it must be great being able to complain about work on national TV and get paid for it.
  • Soul singer Teddy Pendergrass has passed away at 59.  He was the lead singer for "Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes" back in the 70's.  You may also remember that he crashed his Rolls-Royce in Philadelphia in 1982 and was left paralyzed from the waist down. He bravely reutrned to recording a year later.

1/13/10-Here's what we talked about this morning:

1/12/10-Here's what we talked about this morning:

1/11/09-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • NBC admits they screwed up moving Jay Leno to prime time, so beginning in February, Leno returns to late night. I'm sure it's not the last time a hasty programming decision will bite someone in the butt.
  • Art Clokey has passed away at the age of 88.  While Art's name might not be familiar to you, his work sure is.  Art is the man who brought us Gumby.

1/8/10-Here's what we talked about this morning:

1/7/10-Here's what we talked about this morning:

1/6/10-Here's what we talked about this morning:

1/5/10-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • It's cold in Wisconsin, but it's also cold down south.  Houston, for example, will reach a low of under twenty degrees for the first time since 1996.  That will make it colder than McMurdo Station in Antarctica.  Al Gore was not available for comment. BTW, nothing is funnier to me than a bunch of southerners in cold weather.  I lived in the south for six years and they thought it was cold when it hit 30.  I freaked them out because I didn't wear a coat until it got down into the teens.  Of course, they laugh at us in the summer when the humidity down there is 145% and the heat index is the temperature of the sun.
  • A woman in Ohio was so upset that her local McDonalds wouldn't serve her Chicken McNuggets, she punched out the drive through person and then put her fist through the drive-in window.  I feel the same way about Big Macs.
  • Songstress Susan Boyle is on the hunt for the perfect man.  She describes him as being like Simon Cowell.  George Clooney breathes a sigh of releif.

1/4/10-Here's what we talked about this morning:

1/1/10-Good morning and happy new year!  If you overdid it last night, here are some sure fire breakfasts that will help soothe the flannel on your tongue and the freight train in your head.

12/9/09-SNOW DAY! Is it just me or is everyone getting annoyed today when they hear someone sing "Let it Snow"?

12/2/09-Here's what we talked about this morning:

12/1/09-Here's what we talked about this morning:

11/30/09-Here's what we talked about this morning:

11/28/09-Murphy A. Dogg and I drove back down to my Mom and Dad's house and delivered the ham.  Murphy had fun in the car and at his Grandparent's house where he hid under the couch.  My mom was grateful that I brought the ham, but I got a stern lecture about wasting gas and making unncessary trips.  It goes to prove no matter how old you are, your mother is still going to yell at you!  My Dad was mad at me too, but he is always mad at me, so no big deal there. In my heart, I know I did the right thing and even though my parents were mildly annoyed, I made it right, which is what they taught me in the first place!  BTW, if you are wondering why I only took Murphy and not both our dogs, Butkus D. Dogg gets car sick.

11/27/09-Thanksgiving dinner was a huge hit!  I think I shanked the cranberry sauce (a little too tart) but other than that, a home run.  Except my Mom wanted me to bring her a Honey Baked Ham which I left in the fridge at my house.  Ooops!  I feel plenty bad about it too, especially since I went out of my way on Wednesday to pick it up.

11/26/09-Happy Thanksgiving.  I'm about 2/3rds of the way done with getting my Thanksgiving food ready.  Then, we pack it up and head south to visit the parents.  Last night, Murphy A. Dogg stole half a package of sausages and ran around the house with Princess, my mother in law and me in hot pursuit.  We caught him, but I can't figure out if he ate a whole one or not.

11/25/09-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • Next to the opening day of baseball season, Thanksgiving is my favorite day of the year.  As usual, I (along with my two sous chefs Murphy A. Dogg and my mother-in-law, Mama) am making Thankgiving dinner in our kitchen at home, then packing it up and taking it to my mom and dad's house.  Here's my best tip on making the big meal: Go to an office supply store and get some big post it notes.  Put one up on a cabinet in your work area which lists all of the dishes you are planning to make.  Put another up with the prep list in the order you will be preparing them.  I start with the gravy, the cranberry sauce and the brine for the turkey because those take the longest.  On Thanksgiving day, have another post it with cascading cook times so you know when to put each dish in the oven.  Make sure you figure fifteen minutes for the turkey to rest when you take it out of the oven.  Here are some other tips from some one with much more street cred than me.
  • Still confused about your bird? Try the Butterball hotline.

11/24/09-Here's what we talked about this morning:

11/23/09-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • Boy, Taylor Swift is red hot.  After winning seven CMA awards a couple of weeks ago, she won five People's Choice awards last night.  She's got more hardware than True Value.
  • In most cases, if a man misses the birth of a child because he has to work, people will raise an eybrow.  However, you'll have to give Randy Bresnik a pass.  While his wife was giving birth, Bresnik was out taking a space walk as part of the crew of the space shuttle Atlantis.
  • There appears to be a shortage of Eggo waffles.  The shortage in production is being blamed on floods and equiptment failures. Let go of my Eggo!

11/20/09-Here's what we talked about this morning:

11/19/09-Here's what we talked about this morning:

11/18/09-Here's what we talked abou, t this morning:

  • The Libby's folks say there is a shortage of canned pumpkin this year.  Best buy it now before it disappears.
  • Nicholas Cage's former financial manager says Nick's own lavish spending caused his own finiancial downfall.  Among the items Nick purchased were two castles, fifteen homes, several yachts and several more Rolls Royce cars.  Nick is suing Samuel Levin, claiming that Levin is at fault in Nick's reversal of fortune.
  • Those wacky PETA people are at it again.  This time, they are targeting Sesame Street, which is underwritten in part by the egg board.  PETA believes that eggs are bad for you and bad for kids and that touting eggs as a healthy food is misleading to children. I'd write more, but my omlet is getting cold.

11/17/09-Here's what we talked about this morning:

11/16/09-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • The first victim of Canada's recently armed border guards was a moose.  The good news is Rocky is fine and Boris and Natasha are being sought for questioning.
  • Forget H1N1, there's a huge mumps outbreak in the US.  For the record, I survived mumps and measles but had chicken pox and scarlet fever (in succession, by the way.  I was a sickly child!)  I think I just violated HIPPA.
  • A Pizza driver parked his car in the fire lane with the motor running to deliver a pizza.  A good citizen moved it for him...by stealing it.

11/13/09-Here's what we talked about this morning:

11/12/09-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • One of our regulars at Lake 98.1 has decided to move on. No, not Chris Logan.  Lou Dobbs has quit his job at CNN effective immediately.  But don't worry.  Lou will still be with us three times a day (7:10, 12:15, 5:30) with his financial report.
  • What a night for Taylor Swift at the CMA awards.  She became the youngest person ever to win the coveted "Entertainer of the Year" award last night in Nashville. She also won "Female Vocalist of the Year" and "Album of the Year."  In fact, she had to rent a U-Haul to get all her new hardware home!
  • You may love soda pop, but it doesn't love you back.  Studies now indicate that high amounts of high fructose corn syrup can cause high blood pressure.  Drink diet instead until they find something wrong with that.

11/3/09-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • In Omaha, a would be knife weilding restaurant robber was foiled by a cook who stopped him with a flank steak.  Too bad the guy didn't have a fork because flank steak is good eats, !
  • News from Hollywood: If you watch NCIS on a regular basis, you know Tony is estranged from his wealthy dad who cut him off.  In January, Tony will be reunited with his dad.  The part will be played by legendary actor Robert Wagner.
  • Law & Order CSI is about to get a new captain.  Gone is vet Eric Begosian, replaced by Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio.
  • What phrases are sure to get you fired at work?  Here's the top 10

11/2/09-Here's what we talked about this morning:

    <, L, I>
A Minnesota bus driver was suspended for ten days after he used a weapon to chase down a passenger who assulted him on his bus.  His weapon of choice?  An ice scraper.
  • Remember the old "Sonny and Cher" show and cute little Chastity Bono running around the stage at the end of every show?  You probably wouldn't recognize her now, especially since she is a man.  And loving it.
  • Is your pet at risk of H1N1?  Certain pets like hamsters can catch it, but your dog is safe from H1N1.  Just not from "dog flu."

10/30/09-Here's what we talked about this morning:

10/29/09-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • CNN Money has compiled a list of the most stressful, lowest paid jobs around.  They include teachers, producers, new reporters, event coordinators, fund raisers and people who run assisted living centers.  Mornng radio personalities are once again left off the list.
  • Have you seen the DirecTV ad with Chris Farley in it.  Ever since Steve Martin did"Dead Man Don't Wear Plaid" I've always enjoyed the reani, mation (if you will) of dead people into a movie or commerical.  The new DirecTV commercial is taking a lot of flak from people who find it offensive to the memory of Chris Farley, who, by the way, passed away twelve years ago.  The Farley family doesn't agree, saying it honors his memory by making people laugh.

10/28/09-Here's what we talked about this morning:

10/27/09-Here's what we talked about this morning:

10/26/09-Here's what we talked about this morning:

10/25/09-I had a great time this afternoon at Memorial Mall in Sheboygan with the annual "Boo Bash."  There were some great costumes yesterday.  Kudos to the families that dressed up as the "Wizard of Oz" and "Popeye, Olive Oyl and Sweet Pea."  Thanks to all the folks that came out and we'll see you on November 21st when we wake up Santa!

10/23/09-Here's what we talked about this morning:

10/22/09-Here's what we talked about this morning:

10/21/09-Here's what we talked about this morning:

10/20/09-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • If you are looking for a unique holiday gift for the person that has everything, give them the gift of bacon.  Bacon soap.  Now, each morning, your loved one can scrub themselves silly and smell like breakfast after.
  • A chef in Florida got a little str, , essed out at a waitress over an order for mozzarella caprese.  There's a guy who needs to vary his diet.
  • British songstress Susan Boyle is in the hospital with stomach issues.  They say she'll be just fine.

10/19/09-Here's what we talked about this morning:

10/18/09-I was out with my new toy today...a pressure washer.  It's the best $100 I ever spent.  I never thought cleaning the deck would be so fun.

10/16/09-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • What's the wackiest musuem in the US?  The Toilet Seat Museum in Texas.  Keep a lid on it.
  • If you have a favorite new TV show that is in trouble, now is the time to let the networks how you feel.  Here's how.
  • Did you see any of the cable coverage of "balloon boy" yesterday?.  The good n, ews is while people worried about Falcon Heene, he was actually asleep in his attic. Never has such a hoax been as successful since Orson Wells "War of the World."

10/15/09-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • Songstress Barbra Streisand will be auctioning off memories of her career in an auction Saturday and Sunday.  Proceeds will go to her foundation. Sorry, ladies.  Jim Brolin isn't on the block.
  • What's the number one city in the world for riding bicycles?  Madison, WI.
  • Police in Worland, WY responded to a report of an armed man with a gun standing on someone's front lawn.  It turned out to be a cardboard cutout of John Wayne. The Duke was set up by the homeowners daughter as a prank. Well, gee whiz, Pilgrim.

10/14/09-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • The first lady of California isn't setting a good example for citizens.  Despite the fact that the state requires handsfree cell phone operation while driving, Maria Shriver has failed to receive the memo and has had a few citations for being in violation of the law.  The Gubernato, r is not amused. "Maria, I tell you now and remind you later, get off the phone!"
    <, /LI>
  • Marge Simpson, yes that Marge Simpson, will be on the November cover of Playboy and will be um, posing for the magazine in a three page spread.  I guess Minnie Mouse and Jessica Rabbit turned them down.
  • The latest celebrity bounced from "Dancing With The Stars?" Ultimate Fighting champion Chuck Liddell.

10/13/09-Here's what we talked about this morning:

10/12/09-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • If you use I-43 at night, you may have to find an alternate way to enter or exit the highway this week.  The ramps at I-28 and I-42 will be closed for repaving between 6p-6a all this week.
  • What are some of the most dangerous foods you could eat?  If you said a Big Mac, you are wrong.  If you said lettuce, congratulations, you win a salad. Or an omlet.  Or a tuna sandwich.
  • Here's my rant for today: I went to a grocery store last night , and got in the twenty items or less line.  I make it a point to count my items so that I don't screw anyone over in line.  The woman in front of me apparently didn't.  That and she wrote a check.  I bank by Internet and haven't written a check in at least five years.  It took at least five extra minutes for me to get through the line because of an inconsiderate individual.  At my age, that's a lifetime!

10/9/09-Here's what we talked about this morning:

10/8/09-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • If you were planning on getting a new driver's license Monday, we have some bad news for you.  DMV's across Wisconsin are closed due to a furlough day.  It's also Columbus Day.
  • Foodies all over the world are mourning the death of Gourmet Magazine.  Gourmet has been a staple of fine cooking since 1941.
  • If you really want to do something special on that next vacation, you could join the cruise that will celebrate the 100th anniversary voyage of the Titanic.  The Titanic memorial cruise will depart South Hampton, England on April 8, 2012 and with any luck, not have the lengthy stop over the original did on April 14.  You have plenty of time to save money for this trip, an inside cabin is priced at $3,900. Leo DiCaprio not included.

10/7/09-Here's what we talked about this morning:

10/6/09-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • A Pizza Hut manager in Canada was arrested after throwing an elderly customer to the ground over a check dispute. The man returned the favor later that day when the manager walked on his lawn.
  • David Letterman apologized to just about everyone on his show last night.  Dave's gotten some pretty good mileage out of the extortion plot against him,
  • Who was the big winner in the "Dancing with the Stars" that you didn't get to see last night (because of football)? Mya.

9/28/09-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • Some poor person with a g-mail account was accidentally sent a sensitive spread sheet by a bak employee.  A judge has ruled that the account must be suspended until the spreadsheet can be retrieved.  Hopefully, the person sent the spread sheet has more than one e-mail , account.
  • News from Hollywood: We're a week into the new TV season and we already have a cancelation: The CW has pulled the plug on "The Beautiful Life."  And, the USA Network confirms mass changes in the cast of "Law & Order: Criminal Intent."  Leaving the show are cast members Vincent D'Onofrio, Kathryn Erbe, Eric Bogosian and Julianne Nicholson. Saffron Burrows will be joining the cast.
  • If you stayed up late Saturday Night, you may have heard some&nbs, p;harsh language on "Saturday Night Live" as cast member Jenny Slate let loose an "f-bomb."  This is hardly the first time this has happened on SNL.  Here are a few more salty moments.

9/25/09-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • A prisoner in Iowa has been granted a special release...to attend a baseball game.  I thought prison was about being DENIED privledges.
  • Actor/Commercial Voice Over Artist Randy Quaid and his wife have been arrested after skipping out on a $10,000 hotel bill.  Quaid claims that Clark Griswold was supposed to pick up the tab.
  • Miley Cyrus had one of the most exclusive restaurants shut down for a private after concert party.  Miley didn't want to have to dea, l with the public, so she bought all 100 seats at Katsuya.  No telling what it cost, but to someone as successful as Miley, it was probably like you and I holding a party at Chucky Cheese.
  • Some ad guy in Milwaukeethinks the Packers logo needs an upgrade.  Yeah, right after we redo the American flag. . .

9/24/09-Here's what we talked about this morning:

9/23/09-Here's what we talked about this morning:

9/22/09-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • The home of the original Caesar salad has closed it's doors for good.  The Caesar Restaurant in Tijuana, Mexico, tossed its last bowl of romaine last week. The first Caesar salad was constructed in the 1920's when an Italian immigrant named Caesar Cardini was trying to put some leftovers to use.  The salad is named after him and not Julius Caesar or Caesar Milan.
  • Looking for something expensive to snack on? Try the new , White Truffle cupcake at More Cupcakes in Chicago.  They only cost $75 a cupcake.
  • Lots of great TV premiers last night.  New episodes last night included a two hour episode of "House", "Heroes", "Castle" and of course, "Dancing with the Stars."  Tonight, DWTS continues while "NCIS", "NCIS: Los Angeles", "Hell's Kitchen" and "The Biggest Loser" have new shows.

9/21/09-Here's what we talked about this morning:

9/18/09-Here's what we talked about this morning:

9/17/09-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • We've lost a trio of famous Americans in the last 24 hours.  Henry Gibson, who was a member of the cast of Laugh In and in later years a wonderfully gifted character actor on shows like "Boston Legal" was 73.  Mary Travers, the Mary in Peter, Paul and Mary was 72.  PP &M was a 60's folk froup that hat a huge hit with
"Puff the Magic Dragon."  And, Myles Brand, the President of the NCAA has passed at 67.  Brand was a hero to nerds everywhere when he stood up to the bully who kept taking his lunch money, Bob Knight, and fired him as Indiana's basketball coach.
  • Martha Stewart has inked a deal wi, th Home Depot.  You'll be able to buy her patio furniture there. Her deal with K-Mart expires in January.
  • Burt Reynolds is in rehab due to his dependence on pain killers.

9/11/09-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • A bear in Colorado has become an expert at breaking into cars.  The Ranger is not going to like this, Yogi.
  • "Saturday Night Live" will introduce two new cast members this fall.
  • Not everyone is happy that Ellen is the newest judge on "American Idol."  Take Paula Abdul for instance.
  • WEB BONUS MATERIAL: Today is the eighth anniversary of 911.  I don't know what you were doing, but I spent mine in an editing studio for seven hours cutting sound bytes for local coverage and didn't even know what was going on (I couldn't watch TV).  It was a strange day.  And, I hope it never, ever happens again.

Murphy A. Dogg-He's three!

9/7/09-Today we celebrate Lab, or day with a tribute to the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon.  Princess and I watched a little bit last night and I've got to tell you, Jerry looked pretty good for a guy who is almost 84.  And the work that he's done over the years has been extraor, dinary.

9/4/09-Here's what we talked about this morning:

9/3/09-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • Consumer news: If you enjoy Eggo Buttermilk waffels for breakfast, Kellogg's is recalling some product because of Listeria.  For exact UPC numbers, click here.  Also, have you noticed how long your receipts are getting, even when you only buy a couple of items?  Many stores are using them for marketing purposes like coupons or to announce sales.  There is no truth to the rumor that the stores are trying to make receipts hard to put in your wallet, thus making losing them easier to prevent you from returning things.
  • <, LI>
What is the most anticipated returning fall show this upcoming TV season?  NCIS tops TV Guide's list.  For me, besides, NCIS, I'm looking for forward to "Bones", "Cold Case" and "Castle".
  • Katherine Heigel won't be complaining about the 17 hour days on the set of "Grey's Anatomy."  That's because she'll miss five episodes while shooting her latest movie.  Her absence will over lap with co-star Ellen Pompeo's maternity leave, so Seattle grace may be understaffed for a while!

9/2/09-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • How powerful is Oprah?  Only Oprah could get the Magnificent Mile shutdown for three days so she could tape a show.
  • A woman in Indiana, Pennsylvania was cited by law enforcement for cursing at her 10 year-old daughter.  Indiana, Pennsylvania is the hometown of screen legend Jimmy Stewart, by the way.
  • In what may be a scene out of "Boston Lega, l" or "Raising the Bar", a judge in Ohio grew tired of a defendant disrupting his courtroom so he ordered the baliff to shut the man up...by duct taping his mouth.  David E. Kelley and Stephen Bochco are both racing to their typewriters even as we speak.

9/1/09-Here's what we talked about this morning:

8/31/09-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • Senator Ted Kennedy was, laid to rest over the weekend at Arlington National Cemetary, next to his two older brothers.  He was remembered as one of the greatest senators ever, but different would history have been had he accepted an offer to play for the Green Bay Packers?
  • Papa John, the pizza guy, sold his Camero in 1982 to help save his father's business and launch his own.  He's been searching for it ever since and finally found it.  He paid the owner $250,000 for it and it is now on display at Papa John's world headquarters in Louisville.

8/25/09-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • Ca$h for Clunker$ is now over.  Many people were packing dealerships last night looking for a deal.
  • The legislators in Missouri aren't the swiftest bunch on the planet.  In an effort to cut down on foam coolers tossed in state rivers, they enacted a law that they thought would prevent it.  Except, they banned Tupperware, not foam. Foam coolers are still legal, but you could get busted for brining Tupperware on your boat.
  • There is a biopic in the works on the life of Susan Boyle.  One actor is already lined up to audition to the part: Robin Williams. Maybe they can just call it Mrs, . Doubtfire II.

8/24/09-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • A sad ennding to a sad story: Ryan Jenkins, sought for questioning in the murder of his ex-wife was found dead in Canada, the victim of an apparent suicide.  Jenkins had been on the show "Meagan Wants a Millionaire."  VH-1 has since cancelled the show.
  • Once again, Miss Venezuela wins the Miss Universe pagent. It's the first time in the history of the pagent that two contestants from the same country have won in consecutive years.  And you thought Venezuela just had great shortstops.
  • You know about Jared, the "Subway Guy" who lost over 100 pounds by eating Subway sanwiches.  Now, meet Matt, who has lost a lot, of weight eating only pizza.

8/21/09-Here's what we talked about this morning:

  • A Milwaukee man has fulfilled a promise and has eaten at every George Webb Restaurant in Wisconsin this summer.  You may not be excited, but his cardiologist is giddy!
  • A woman was arrested after attacking a clerk at a Cracker Barrell Restaurant with a bottle of apple juice and a Slim Jim.  A Slim Jim is not considered a deadly weapon unless you actually eat it.
  • Sqeemish about spicy?  Here's some tips to make it less of an ordeal.

  • It used to be when a bank teller chased a would be robber down the street and pinned him until police arrived, a parade was held in his honor.  Now a days, people get fired for being heroes.  What was that Shakespere said about lawyers?
  • Being the POTUS comes with some cool perks.  Like lovely parting gifts.
  • Shemar Moore, one of the stars of "Criminal Minds" on CBS br, oke his leg while biking when he was hit by a car.  According to all the women I know (incluuding my wife Princess and daughter Jordan) Shemar is a real hotty.  Maybe it was somebody's jealous husband.  BTW, I have an alibi.

  • Paula Abdul's new manager says that she may not be back on "American Idol."  If course, with Simon and Ryan getting fat new contracts, he could just be posturing to get his client more money.  In fact, I'd bet that's exactly what he's doing.
  • Forty years ago today, in an apartment building in the suburbs of Chicago, four neighboring families set up a TV in the backyard (no cable or converter box required) and watched what is still the coolest thing I have ever seen...Neil Armstrong coming down the ladder and walking on the moon.  With all of the cool toys we have now, it may not seem like much, but then it was incredible.  OMG, I am channeling my father, aren't I?
  • The man who anchored the coverage of the first moon walk as well as the JFK assassination, the Viet Nam War, Watergate and everything in between passed away over the weekend at 92.  Uncle Walter was a frequent visitor in our home and in homes across America.  Before there was CNN, Fox News and MSNBC, Walter Cronkite was one of three nightly choices you had for nightly news.  Rarely did he let you down.
